It is way too hot to go looking through garage sale tables for kid clothes. For the past few years I have been consigning and volunteering with Just Between Friends. They started in Norman, and have expanded to include a sale at the OKC Fairgrounds. It is huge. Every kind of baby item, furniture, kids’ clothes, shoes, toys, videos, books, etc. They are very picky about what they except, so merchandise is considerably nicer than you would find at your average garage sale.
If you consign with them, you keep 70% less a $5 fee. Stuff usually sells for about 1/3 of the original cost, depending on what shape its in and if it is a name brand.
This is my favorite part: If you volunteer for 3 hours during the sale (hanging up clothes, sorting, checking people out) you get to shop early before the regular shoppers. It’s kind of a charged atmosphere waiting to go in before the pre-sale. Everyone is pumped to find all those nice clothes for good prices. I’ve started buying stuff for Christmas. My son is not old enough to demand new toys yet, thank goodness. Quick tip: Bring a stroller or laundry basket or something to carry all your goodies. Your arms will get loaded and tired.
Another really cool thing is that all unclaimed merchandise at the end of the sale goes to local mother/child charities.
Sales dates are August 26 - 28, 2005 (OKC Fairgrounds) and September 20 - 24, 2005 (Cleveland County Fairgrounds).
